Tips for TIPSters

As part of the gross over-reaction to 9/11 the government has initiated a program to recruit civilians to spy on each other. This is the Terrorism Information and Prevention System, unsurprisingly called TIPS. The problem with this spy on everyone program is Americans do not like being spied upon. It is expected the reaction will range from unpleasant and unfriendly to downright hostile.

If you plan to participate in the TIPS program you should consider the following suggestions. The life and limb you save may be your own.

  • Demand total anonymity before joining and a guarantee of federal protection should your identity be exposed.
  • Never tell anyone you are a member, not your family, not the local police, no one.
  • Never be caught outside alone after dark or in an isolated place at any time.
  • Travel in pairs where feasable any time of the day or night.
  • Never be caught doing your job while inside anyone's home.
  • Before entering a home, make certain someone knows where you will be and how long you will be there and for help to be sent if you do not call back at the time you expect to leave.
  • Always check under the hood of your car before starting it.
  • Avoid opening suspicious packages.
