Image of the Seal of Jezebel

This little gem has been around since 1964. No professional has taken it seriously as it appeared on the antiquities market and thus lacks provenance. It is also said the name Jezebel is spelled incorrectly. This recently made the news with a non-archaeologist making a claim by the so-called process of elimination. That is not a scientific approach.

It is secondary to note that the images on it are clearly Egyptian and that the name is mis-spelled. Further this person is identified as a Phoenician. Even if the spelling were the same there is nothing to indicate which person with the name Jezebel it might be. In other words, not matter if it did have provenance because it does not identify this person as the queen of Israel it has no bearing upon the OT.

Notice all the things the experts are willing to say about this item because it not of significant interest to believers. And believers do not rally to defend it. These are the same criticisms leveled against things which are popular with believers and which are equally valid regardless of popularity.

So what is the simplest explanation? It is a forgery.
