An inquiry into into the origin of a concept
"I looked into the name of the holocaust and it's number was six million. Count thee not to 12 million but go thou directly to 6 million, in his mercy."

As suprising as is the investigation into the first use of Zyklon B is the investigation into the terms "Holocaust" and "six million." What at first appear to be terms uniquely connected with the outcome of WW II turned out to be something else entirely.

This is ongoing research and references will be added as they are discovered. Be sure to this this page whenever you visit.

We find the use of the term six million as far back as 19191 in regard to Jews in Germany. This speech even blames it partially on a "bigoted lust for jewish blood." And this is the only such blame of bigotry or blood related to Jews to come out of WW I.

Yet here we have here what appears to be a speech as part of a fund raiser to send food to German Jews. It strikes notes of blood and bigotry and death but there is clearly nothing but the starvation that all of Germany was experiencing at that time. There is nothing in the real history of Germany at the time that supports anything more than general starvation and certainly nothing specifically directed towards Jews.

Another instance comes in 1936 where a future president of Israel, Chaim Weizmann, mentions2 a mystical connection between Jews and the number 6 million a full nine years ahead of the time the number becomes the official, true number. This number is a recurrent theme to the point of an obsession.

The next case comes from a letter3 written in May 1944 from a cave outside of Lublin, Poland. This writer refers to a number a six million (and to events in Hungary) that he could not possibly have known. Not only could he not have known the number of six million, he is referring to an end of the war figure almost a year before the end of the war.

In this case the author is pleading for help from the Zionists in Palestine, noting that they are spending money on buying land rather than helping their fellow Jews. In attempting to get help he invokes death and the six million just as did the ex-governor in calling for help. The theme of death and the number is common between them.

Note that in these documents there is an emphasis upon innocense. In this regard I point out that the word Holocaust comes from a hebrew word meaing a blood sacrifice of the innocent. On one hand this can be considered an apt choice for the events of WW II but it has nothing to do with the events of WW I.

Also in these cases, it clearly has a religious significance. It is the entire image of blood sacrifice that goes all through the Old Testament. Even a matter of hunger is linked to a lust for jewish blood and the blood sacrifice of the innocent in a religious holocaust.

The six million is much harder to identify save that is also has a religious significance. An entire branch of medieval judaism was based upon numerology. Certain numbers have a repeated theme in judaism and one of those numbers is 6, even to twice six being the number of the apostles. 6,000,000 is of course a six with six zeroes.

The origin of it is probably in the six pointed Star of David. And the origin of that is speculation but likely the drawn symbol of the seven gods of the Hebrews; the six points representing the minor gods and the open space in the center of Yahweh God who presence is indicated by the absense in idols found in Israel.

This interest in numerology continues today. When the law required that the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum represent all twelve million victims, the governing board put only one hard and fast requirement upon the architect. That requirement being that the Hall of Rememberance must have six sides to represent the Star of David and the six million jews in the holocaust.

After WW II the terms six million and holocaust became inseparable even though some twelve million were supposed to have been involved in the holocaust.

THE CRUCIFIXION OF JEWS MUST STOP!
By MARTIN H. GLYNN
(Former Governor of the State of N.Y.)

"From across the sea six million men and women call to us for help, and eight hundred thousand little children cry for bread.

[...] "These children, these men and women are our fellow-members of the human family, with the same claim on life as we, the same susceptibility to the winter's cold, the same propensity to death before the fangs of hunger. Within them reside the illimitable possibilities for the advancement of the human race as naturally would reside in six million human beings. we may not be their keepers but we ought to be their helpers."

[...] "In the face of death, in the throes of starvation there is no place for mental distinctions of creed, no place for physical differences of race. In this catastrophy, when six million human beings are being whirled toward the grave by a cruel and relentless fate, only the most idealistic promptings of human nature should sway the heart and move the hand.

"Six million men and women are dying from lack of the necessaries of life; eight hundred thousand children cry for bread. And this fate is upon them through no fault of their own, through no transgression of the laws of God or man; but through the awful tyranny of war and a bigoted lust for jewish blood.

"In this threatened holocaust of human life, forgotten are the niceties of philosophical distinction, forgotten are the differences of historical interpretation; and the determination to help the helpless, to shelter the homeless, to clothe the naked and to feed the hungry becomes a religion at whose altar men of every race can worship and women of every creed can kneel..."

2Dr. Chaim Weizmann (president of Israel in 1948) president of the World Zionist Organization on November 25th, 1936 declared the "6 million" number to be symbolic of the Jewish destiny. [Source: Chaim Weizmann: Reden und Aufsatze 1901-1936. jud. Bucherverlag Erwin Lowe, Berlin 1937)

3A letter from Rabbi Michael Dov Weissmandel, a rescue worker, written to the leaders of Zionism in Palestine, now Israel. the complete letter

[begin letter]

May 15, 1944 - In a cave near Lublin. Sholom and Greetings. We send you this special message to inform you that yesterday the Germans began the deportation of Jews from Hungary. It is the beginning of deportation of all the Hungarian Jews.

Every day, twelve thousand souls are being taken off. Four deportations of forty-five such train-loads move daily out of Hungary. Within twenty-six days all that area will have been deported.

The deported ones go to Auschwitz to be put to death by cyanide gas. A great number are dead on arrival. The Germans allow a few of the strongest to stay alive.

...

And you - our brothers in Palestine, in all the countries of freedom, and you, ministers of all the kingdom - how do you keep silent in the face of this great murder? Silent while thousand on thousands, reaching now to six million Jews, were murdered.

And silent now while tens of thousands are still being murdered and waiting to be murdered? Their destroyed hearts cry to you for help as they bewail your cruelty. Brutal you are and murderers too you are, because of the cold-bloodedness of the silence in which you watch.

...

4There have been innumerable references to the combination of six million and holocaust since the war.
