Novus Ordo Seclorum

Get out a one dollar bill. Look at the motto under the pyramid on the back. There it it. The new order for the ages. That was for the ages. Now we have the New World Order already put into effect by George Bush as the coup de gras of the Reagan strategy.
It must be sinister so many will say; either because it is the evil new world order or because Bush did it; all paranoids agree. But the New World Order Bush spoke of was not one for the ages. It was a world order without a superpower confrontation governing almost every aspect of international relations. Let me demonstrate.
Let me first stipulate that is was a code phrase. And let me recognize it was first spoken in second week following the Iraqi conquest of Kuwait. And after the code phrase was uttered it was not repeated.
To this day it is not clear to the general public why Bush promoted the Persian Gulf War. The marxists say it was to make his oil buddies rich but it was the conquest that made them rich and the war which put them back to to where they were before the invasion. And Bush's first act was to get Saudi to agree to pump more oil which prevented his "buddies" from becoming even richer.
Others say it was for the free flow of oil at market prices but then the price barely increased and Saudi could certainly have been induced to produce more and ignore the conquest.
Others have suggested it was a threat to Saudi Arabia but then with the control of Kuwait they were only about 50 miles closer than before and Kuwait is not any more a military asset than the Iraq/Saudi border east of Kuwait.
Others say it was the UN forcing the US to invade to support its policies but then it was the US that took the lead in the UN to mandate the action against Iraq.
There is a suggestion that the US wanted imperial control over the region but if that had ever been the objective all that was needed was for the US to airlift the personnel into Saudi to all the pre-positioned military bases in Saudi and use them against Saudi.
We are left with no good reason for that war if we accept any of these reasons. So why?
To understand this we need to look at the Soviet Union at the time, not at Iraq. The first hints of democracy in the Soviet Union had started but were kept under control by the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. Gorbechov was interested in promoting democracy and capitalism if and only if it did not conflict with government control of the society. You may remember many of the half hearted measures.
At the same time, if you remember the news analysis' of the day you will remember there was the constant threat of the Red Army taking over and reimposing Marxism. And that is the key to the Persian Gulf War.
From near the beginning the Soviet Union was a triumverate (proving once more that triumverates fail) of the CPSU, the secret police in the current form of the KGB, and of the army. Gorbechov had gotten control of the KGB in his political manoeuverings but not of the Red Army. The Army was posturing as the last holdout against "surrender" to the US even after it was the clear cause of bankrupting the country to respond to Star Wars.
For example, even as Gorbechov was talking peace and freedom with the West, the military kept its missiles pointed our way and was producing and operating submarines at a rate greater than before Gorbechov. That is not the way to make peace.
At this point I have to ask you to join with me in speculation that will become clear later. When there is no clear power and all decisions are arrived at in secret and those deliberating are equals, the army had an effective veto. Its trump card was that in a war, it could still neutralize the US, gain control of Europe and continue the Soviet empire. That was the power of the military. It had the position that change was not required.
Back to Iraq as a target. Despite claims of who supplied Iraq with military equipment (never substantiated and those who disagree are invited to send me the information) some 90% (all the serious hardware, not the uniforms and a few land mines) of all the military equipment used by Iraq was Soviet made and in most cases the latest design. In addition to Soviet training, all during the war there were Soviet advisors on how to use the equipment to win.
If your memory is functioning you will remember that up until the last minute Gorbechov was imploring Iraq to withdraw before the war started. You will remember the Army advisors remained in Iraq as "observers" (known as bullshit) to do their best to thwart the US attack. You will remember that the Soviet designed air defense system for Bahgdad was more modern and better than that for Moscow.
You will remember the Iraqi defense was a joke.

You will remember the air defenses of Bahgdad was a joke.

And that made the Red Army a joke.

The best counter the Red Army had to the defeat was that it was not Russians using Russian equipment and they were allowed that face saving by Bush. What conceivable difference that could make is not clear in that all the reasons for losses were technological.
It was proven that the Red Army was useless against the West and particularly against the United States military. But they were again allowed to save face by Bush. The civilian powers in the Soviet Union took care of them in private. The failure of the Soviet military was not driven home; the existence of the New World Order was not repeated.
Within months the Soviet Union dissolved into the Confederation of Independent States. The entire military lost its credibility. Submarines returned to port and never to leave again. Maintenance on missile silos ceased and have been useless since then. This is not to suggest their ballistic missile boats were still seriously effective at that time.
Which brings us back to the New World Order that Bush promised, the end of the Soviet Union and the confrontation of two super powers.
But he never explained that point. If the roles had been reversed and Gorbechov had rubbed our faces into the mud over the loss would we have dissolved or redoubled our efforts? The Russian people are no different and the victory would have been turned into delayed revenge.
This is precisely the reason for the Gulf War. To have a confrontation between the Soviet and US military to break the power of the Soviet military in the Soviet Union. After that loss its impotence was obvious to every Russian citizen. That it was mislead by them was a given.
Thus the financial destruction of the Soviet Union started by Reagan with Star Wars was completed by Bush with a demonstration that even what they did have was garbage. After the Gulf War, Soviet weaponry was selling at 80% off the pre-war price. No one wanted it. And that lack of market cut off the largest pre-war source of hard currency.
The purpose of the Gulf War was the final destruction of the Soviet Union and to bring about the New Word Order. And we are now living in it. There is only one superpower in the world for the first time in centuries. And there is no other military power that can challenge the US in the foreseeable future.
Star Wars forced them to a stand down but left them with the pretension of being a serious world military force. The Gulf War made the Soviet Military a joke. The Gulf War was the anticlimatic end to the Cold War.
As long as there is to be a New World Order, I am very happy it is ours and not theirs. And for the foreseeable future it will be ours and not anyone else's. I like the NWO. It is about time nuclear war is not over our heads every minute of the day. It is about time pissant little countries can not play us off against the Soviet Union. It is about time, period.
