I was reviewing some of my previous posts for accuracy of the comments and found this one. This is from two years ago and shows
he is saying today the same things he was saying two years ago. Twenty
thousand more troops back then 20,000 more troops today. 125,000 Iraqi
troops trained by December 2005 and today 120,000 Iraqi troops trained by
December 2007. We must give democracy a chance back them and we must still
give it a chance today. Not one of his predictions turned out to be correct.
Back then I was skeptical and today I know I was correct. Things have gotten
worse in the last two years despite elections. Everything did not change for
the better after the January 2005 elections. Everything did change for the
worse. So two years ago he praised for being honest "that things are not
going well" and today he is praised for admitting exactly the same thing.
As a matter of fact you can take the entire original LA Times article and
print it today and no one would notice it is from two years ago. It appears
staying the course means telling the same lies year after year.
Back then it was worth noting that 65 people had been killed in car bombings
in a single day. Two years later such numbers are a daily occurrence. Back
then I noted Sunnis would join the fighting and they have.
One thing has changed since two years ago. Syria did in fact come close to
sealing its border with Iraq. It has done so more successfully than the US
has sealed its border with Mexico. What has not changed is Bush still blames
Syria for the problems. Yes, I am certain the British blamed the French for
the success of the colonial revolution. For the record if the US wants the
border sealed it can seal it from the Iraqi side.
Yogi Berra was wrong. Deja Vu is just like it used to be.
